My friend, Walter Sasaki’s passing touched me profoundly. He, and his wife Joyce, stood at my side closely through tempest and turmoil and I will never forget Walter’s loyalty. Walter is one of the first to have sparked in me my interest in Haiku – the now-Englishized version of the ancient Japanese poetic art form.
ALONE
What are your thoughts
Alone
How is life to be lived
Alone
Time passes us all by
Alone
Houses full of loved ones yet
Alone
Youthful dreams escaped
Alone
Years fighting wars
Alone
More years finding glories
Alone
Soaring to heights unknown
Alone
Falling back to earth
Alone
Am I meant to exist
Alone
Your grace brings home
I am truly not
Alone
Written on December 30, 2019 for Joyce Sasaki after Walter’s passing.
