The Charles Swisher Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) asked to have a few comments made during its May 30, 2022 Memorial Day celebration, in part held to honor the graves (representing valor, heroism, dedication to #FAITH #FAMILY and #FLAG) of the valorous fallen heroes interred in the Masonic Cemetery located in Fallbrook, California.
This page was made for future references to the subjects in my memorial speech, to preserve the points made in a ready-access point, and as a verification that if America forgets the lessons that are waiting to be taught to us, then we – as a single nation but as a hugely divided people – will be forced to relive the horrors of the past.
Memorial day arose spontaneously in several places in the United States as a result of the 800,000 dead soldiers on both sides of the Great Civil War of 1860-1865, a war that saw brother kill brother and neighbor kill neighbor. A was fought largely in the rebellious Southern States of that time in their effort to preserve what many now call, a war to protect so-called States Rights.
As an aside: So, I had a question that upon pondering someone present might know the answer. The question was this: Is there even a single European nation (other than Switzerland, of which the world surely knows) that has a large, armed population due to a lack of laws forbidding gun ownership?
We’ll get back to that later.
Our nations “official” position is that Memorial Day began In New York. In 1966, Congress and President Lyndon Johnson declared Waterloo, N.Y., the “birthplace” of Memorial Day. There, a ceremony on May 5, 1866, honored local veterans who had fought in the Civil War.
Such turned out not to be true for in just the past few years, additional research has shown that Memorial Day – originally called “Decoration Day” since the day was dedicated to decorating soldier’s graves with flowers as well as maintaining them in orderly condition – actually was first celebrated in Charleston, South Carolina by then-freed slaves who took it upon themselves to re-inter over 250 Union soldiers who had died anonymously in a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp housed in a converted horse race track and public stands – the Santa Anita of the Civil War, if you will.
Here is a short description in phrase of this event, “The Civil Wrestle in American Memory, a commemoration organized by freed slaves and a few white missionaries took space on May well 1, 1865, in Charleston, S.C., at a former planters’ racetrack the keep Confederates held captured Union squaddies at some stage within the final yr of the war. As a minimal 257 prisoners died, hundreds of disease, and maintain been buried in unmarked graves, so shaded residents of Charleston made up our minds to present them a lawful burial.”
Within a short period of time, spontaneous celebrations of Decoration Day began all over the South AND the North where, with deep regret and remorse, citizens of all shades of skin color and political zeal began to look after both their own graves but, also, the graves of their former enemy.
So, it is time to ask, “Why were so many men willing to die for their side in America’s Civil War?
The resounding answer was freedom. From the South’s point-of-view, which no longer is accepted as tenable, the answer was “state’s rights” including the right to own another person – a sordid institution called slavery. On the North’s side, it is a certainty that the preservation of the Constitution and Bill of Rights was the fire that burned most brightly, the beacon of freedom for all souls.
Some of those rights are freedom of speech, religion, assembly, the press, petitioning government and the right to keep and bear arms – rights that Americans largely believe come from God, and are not in any way linked to a grant by any government.
So, what is the answer to the question I started with a few minutes ago?
ANSWER is UKRAINE – the citizens of that now-beleaguered country owned millions upon millions of rifles prior to the invasion by the demonic Russian forces. That is why Russians are not now in control of Ukraine and have suffered over 30,000 deaths at the hands of the Ukrainian resistance.
One last thought to ponder: some contend that Canada’s president is the son of deceased Communist revolutionary Fidel Castro. This fact is as hotly contested by the main stream media as was the bona fides of Hunter Biden’s laptop-from-hell. And just like the laptop, MSM will ultimately concede the fact of Justin Trudeau’s lineage.
Trudeau worked ferociously to import thousands of Communist Chinese People’s Liberation Army troops into Canada, there to participate in Winter Warfare Training. Imagine, the USA now has an armed force from China trained to fight on our northern border even while many in our own country seek to disarm us.
As well, America has allowed huge tracts of land in Canada and Mexico to be owned by Communist China.
Sad to say, Communist China is one of America’s largest owners of farm land.
Do NOT dishonor our fallen heroes by giving up our sacred Constitutional rights to any man!
